To register as a United Way Suncoast Nonprofit Partner, organizations must meet the following criteria:

  • Designated by the IRS as a 501 (c)(3) organization, school, government agency, or faith-based organization; is a school, government agency, hospital, hospice, nursing home, or community organization.
  • Does not withhold services based on membership, religious affiliation/participation or sexual orientation.
  • An organization engaged in religious activities, unless volunteer assistance is not used to support those religious activities described below.
  • Is not a partisan political organization or labor union.

Please note: United Way Suncoast does not recruit or refer volunteers to:

  • Direct raising of funds or participating in fundraising efforts for an external nonprofit.
  • Organizing or engaging in protests, petitions, boycotts, strikes; or assisting, promoting, or deterring union organizing.
  • Engaging in partisan political activities, or other activities designed to influence the outcome of an election to any public office; or participating in or endorsing events or activities that are likely to include advocacy for or against political parties, political platforms, political candidates, or elected officials.
  • Engaging in religious activities such as: conducting worship services; volunteering for part of a program that includes religious instruction or worship; constructing, operating, or maintaining facilities devoted to religious instruction or worship; or engaging in any form of religious proselytization.
  • Dangerous, highly skilled, or extensive manual labor activities that pose a reasonable physical risk to untrained individuals. (I.e. tasks include but are not limited to: operating equipment, machinery, or tools that typically require training; construction tasks like laying bricks, concrete, or carpentry; professional-quality painting; physically demanding tasks like lifting, pushing or pulling 40 pounds repeatedly; arduous landscaping, climbing ladders, extended exposure to extreme outdoor elements).
