MAY ENGAGEMENT: PREPARING FOR SUMMER

Summer is a critical time for children, especially ALICE families. Without school, many children lose access to meals and learning opportunities, widening achievement gaps. A child that does not read on grade-level by the end of 3rd grade is four times more likely to drop out of school. Children who are involved in quality summer care programs, have access to books and engagement activities, and are supported with appropriate instruction can maintain the skills acquired during the school year. This month, we're focusing on volunteer opportunities that help our community prepare for summer - stocking food pantries, supporting early learning programs, and beautifying outdoor spaces.
